SkyDome Information
The SkyDome is located in the heart of the entertainment district of downtown Toronto. At the corner of Front and Peter Streets, west of the CN Tower, SkyDome is just a short walk from Union Station (subway and train station). Just north of Toronto's Harbourfront, SkyDome is also accessible from Lakeshore Blvd at the Spadina Avenue exit.
The Skydome weighs 11,000 tons and is almost completely exposed when the roof is open. The retractable roof area alone is almost 340,000 square feet, and it takes approximately 20 minutes to open or close the roof. In the outfield is a jumbotron video display board that is 33 feet high by 110 feet wide. There are 67,200 bulbs in the video board and it cost approximately $17,000,000 to complete.
The playing surface is symmetric from left to right, with the lines being 328, the alleys being 375 and dead center being 400. The outfield wall is padded all the way around and is 10 feet high, and the field can be converted from baseball to football in less than 12 hours, even though it’s almost never needed. The turf needs more than 8 miles of zippers to connect the individual strips.
